TEMPO.CO, JakartaGadjah Mada University (UGM) is ranked first as the national campus with the most successful proposals and total funding for the Business Cooperation and Creative Invention (Kedaireka) 2022 Matching Fund program of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology.

"A total of 95 out of 296 proposals submitted by UGM have successfully given funding in the Kedaireka 2022 Matching Fund program," said UGM Deputy Chancellor for Research, Business Development and Cooperation, Ignatius Susatyo Wijoyo, as quoted from the UGM website on Thursday, December 29, 2022.

In the Kedaireka 2022 Matching Fund program, 95 proposals were able to successfully \obtain funding, including 86 proposals from higher education (Dikti) and 9 proposals from vocational education (Diksi). Each matching fund is spread over various clusters including 14 programs from the social humanities cluster, 23 from the science technology cluster, 19 from the health and medicine cluster, and 36 from the food and agro-complex cluster.

For the funding, UGM managed to obtain Rp67 billion as a source for developing the 2022 matching fund program. Then, more than Rp72 billion was contributed from associated partners. Currently, UGM produces 60 prototypes and 6 products that are ready to be downstreamed to the industry. According to Susatyo, the condition is considered a challenge in the future in preparing better technology and innovation.

"This achievement in 2022 will be an innovation leap in 2023 to strengthening interactions and links between UGM and industrial partners in building earthly innovation for the country," he said.

UGM Chancellor, Ova Emilia said that the university is focused on materializing the results of collaboration and innovation produced through the Kedaireka platform. Upon this collaboration between universities and the world of business and industries, UGM strives to increase the benefits and relevance as well as developing science and technology in society.

"If the amount that is produced is many, how much has already been downstreamed? If the result is low, then there is a big homework to produce innovations that are easy to downstream. Thus, it should look at the needs of industry and society," she explained.

Ova said that UGM had participated in the matching fund program since 2021. The program provides opportunities and potential for UGM to scale up innovations both on a pilot project and industrial scale.

"We appreciate the hard work of the researchers who run the matching fund program. We hope this will benefit both the institution and the community," she said.

Meanwhile, the Director General of Higher Education of the Ministry of Education and Culture, Nizam, said that the matching fund program, which launched in 2021, is to accelerate the downstream of concepts and products from higher education. This downstream effort is a form of making the work of the three teachings (Tridarma) of higher education more relevant to the needs of the community as well as the business and industrial world.

"What can be downstreamed is technological products and ideas from the social sciences and humanities. The entire spectrum of innovation by the three teachings of higher education is highly encouraged and becomes something useful for society," he explained.

Nizam explained that in 2022, there would be 5,407  proposals by creative engineering from 504 universities in Indonesia that would compete with each other to win the Kedaireka funding. "This number drives UGM as the university with the highest number of proposals and funding this year. A big Congratulations to all and we appreciate your great efforts," he explained.

The resulting output, continued Nizam, supports the achievement of the Main Performance Indicators (IKU) of tertiary institutions, namely the number of students engaged in off-campus activities (MBKM) and the application of lecturer research.
