TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati explained that the most expensive funding to achieve the carbon emission reduction target will be the cost to convert fossil fuel to renewable energy.
"This needs an extraordinary amount of investment, up to IDR3,500 trillion. That is the estimate,” said Sri Mulyani in the Tempo Town Hall virtual meeting on Thursday, December 15, 2022.
The total estimated fund is needed to convert the energy and transportation sectors. The purpose of the conversion is to lower CO2 emissions.
Meanwhile, Sri estimated that the forestry sector would need much fewer funds compared to the energy sector at an estimated IDR309 trillion. The third most costly spending will be in the waste sector at around IDR185 trillion.
Minister Sri Mulyani said that the funding challenges are clearly visible as the State Budget will not be able to meet the IDR4,000 trillion funding requirement.
