TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) agency for Combating Extremism and Terrorism or BPET MUI responded to the suicide bombing that occurred on Wednesday, December 7, 2022. BPET MUI stated that radical movements and terrorism are contrary to religion and the fatwa of the Indonesian Ulema Council No. 3 of 2004 concerning Terrorism.

"Strictly condemns the acts of terror carried out by terrorists with whatever motives and objectives, whether it be done individually or in groups," said the BPET MUI's official statement on Thursday, December 8, 2022.

In the aftermath of this incident, BPET MUI also urged the government to pay close attention to deradicalization regulations and requested that the program be adjusted to become mandatory and must be integrated and sustainable.

In addition, MUI also appealed to the public not to share videos regarding suicide bombings.

Previously, the Astanaanyar Police Bombing occurred on Wednesday morning December 7, 2022. At that time the perpetrator whose name is Agus Sujatno a.k.a Agus Muslim forced his way into the police office where at that time its members were holding a rally.

A few minutes later, Agus blew himself up. He died on the spot. A police officer was also the victim of the suicide bombing. Aipda Sofyan, who was previously in critical condition, died while in the hospital.
