TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Industry Ministry’s director general of SMEs Reni Yanita on Thursday said the domestic toy manufacturing industry has contributed to the country’s economic growth after logging a 29 percent export increase compared to last year.
"The export value for the January-September 2022 period reached US$ 383 million, an increase of 29.83 percent from the same period in the previous year which was US$ 295 million," said Yanita at the PT Mattel Indonesia headquarters in Cikarang, West Java, on December 8.
Currently, said Reni, there are 131 medium-sized toy industry companies in Indonesia, with a workforce of approximately 36,000 people. The main export destination for Indonesian-manufactured toys are the United States, Singapore, Britain, China and Germany, while the types of toys most exported are dolls, stuffed toys and scaled-down model toys.
Mattel Indonesia is projected to grow its production capacity by 30 percent and attract more than 1,000 workforces. The company has also received the INDI 4.0 award of 2022 for the smart factory category. Such an award is hoped to be a stimuli for the toy manufacturing industry to elevate productivity, efficiency, and capacity.
