TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Semarang-Demak Toll Road Section II is targeted to be operational soon to anticipate a spike in traffic flow during the Christmas and New Year holidays. The toll road is expected to be operational on December 15, 2022.
The Governor of Central Java, Ganjar Pranowo said, Section II of the Semarang-Demak Toll Road has currently closed again for finishing. Several supporting infrastructure facilities will be completed before December 15, 2022.
Ganjar said that the work would be accelerated so that the Semarang-Demak Toll Road could be operational again for the New Year holidays.
"Hopefully it reopens on December 15, so the transportation services during the Christmas and New Year holidays are ready. Earlier I tried to reach the point of entry to this toll road, thank God the traffic was smooth, the horrible (traffic jam) yesterday could be unravelled. Hopefully, the finishing toll road will be better," said Ganjar as quoted from the Central Java Provincial Government's official website, Wednesday, December 7, 2022.
Meanwhile, quoted from the official Instagram of PP Construction & Investment Semarang-Demak, it is stated that the toll road has been closed again to the public since December 2, 2022.
Previously, section II of the Semarang-Demak Toll Road was opened to public drivers on November 11, 2022. The opening of the route was carried out on a scheduled basis, at 06:00 - 10:00 WIB, the route was opened from Demak to Semarang, via the Kadilangu Toll exit, while at 15:00 - 18:00 WIB, the route was opened from the direction of Semarang to Demak via the Sayung Toll exit.
The Ministry of Public Works and Housing (PUPR) is also targeting the Semarang-Demak Toll Road as one of the 8 toll roads that are functional for the flow of traffic during the Christmas and New Year holidays.
