TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Anies Baswedan, the presidential candidate endorsed by the NasDem Party, was reported by civilians to the Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu) for campaigning at a place of worship in Aceh on December 2, 2022.
Responding to this, the chairman of the party’s central board Willy Aditya denied that Anies was campaigning during his political safari to the city known as Veranda of Mecca.
“First, no campaign is carried out by Anies and the NasDem Party,” said Willy to Tempo on Wednesday, December 7, 2022.
He rebutted the saying that Anies used a place of worship for his campaign. According to Willy, Anies happened to have performed prayers at the mosque and then people came and asked for selfies with the former governor of Jakarta.
“What's wrong with it? How is it different from public figures or artists who also experience things like that?” he said.
Willy said Anies' political safari to various regions was intended to introduce the latter to the public. “If there is a broad and big welcome, it means that the people really miss someone like Pak Anies,” he added.
Bawaslu chairman Rahmat Bagja confirmed that there are people who filed a report against Anies Baswedan for campaigning in Aceh on December 2, 2022. However, he said the report was not accepted.
“Their report has not been accepted and has not been noted in B1 form because they have not presented 3 copies of evidence,” said Rahmat on Wednesday, December 7, adding that they have seven days to complete the evidence.
