TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Acting Governor Heru Budi Hartono ordered Transportation Agency to deal with rampant illegal parking practices in the capital which are estimated to generate Rp50 million per day only in one area.
“I have assigned Transportation Agency to control illegal parking,” said Heru Budi in Kramat Jati Market, East Jakarta, Tuesday, December 6, 2022.
He claimed that the agency had taken action. Yet he did not detail the location. “It was done yesterday afternoon,” Heru said.
As previously reported, Jakarta Citizen Forum (Fakta) chairman Azas Tigor Nainggolan questioned the flow of illegal parking funds which is predicted to reach billions of rupiah per month.
He mentioned that in the area near Grand Indonesia Mall, the fee charged for parking is Rp10,000. If there were 5,000 motorbikes parked every day, the income could reach Rp50 million per day, which is equivalent to Rp1.5 billion a month or Rp18 billion a year.
Talking about illegal parking practices in Jakarta is no longer a secret. This also often triggers conflict among groups or mass organizations as they compete for parking allocations.
Nainggolan said such conflicts often occurred. A few years ago, he recalled, it happened in Kelapa Gading or Cibubur.
