121 PLN Power Stations Affected by Semeru Eruption

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-owned electricity company PLN is focusing on securing electricity networks in several areas such as Sumber Mujur, Pronojiwo, and Tempursari following the eruption of Mount Semeru. PLN said that 121 of its power stations were affected by the volcanic eruption that came with hot clouds early Sunday morning.
"We are currently still waiting for the ash rain to subside so we can normalize the network in affected locations. It is recorded that 121 substations that supply power to customers were affected by this incident," PLN manager for Tempeh Customer Service Unit (ULP), Tandi Saputro, said in a statement received in Surabaya on Sunday, December 4, 2022.
He hopes that the weather will be friendly soon so that PLN can immediately localize the affected areas.
"We also hope for the participation of residents, to report potential electrical hazards that have not been monitored so that repairs can be made immediately. Hopefully, it will resume to normal soon," he said.
Mount Semeru in Lumajang Regency, East Java, spewed hot clouds on Sunday from 02:46 local time as far as seven kilometers.
Joko Sambang, head of the Emergency Division of Lumajang Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), said that his personnel is on standby at the monitoring post.
"We are already at the monitoring post. The mountain is still emitting hot clouds as far as five to seven kilometers in radius. Our monitoring post is approximately 12 kilometers from the summit," said Joko Sambang in a written statement.
