Jakarta Bans Fireworks on 2023 New Year's Eve

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Deputy Governor for culture and tourism affairs Marullah Matali stated that the city administration has banned the use of fireworks during the 2023 new year's eve celebration. Marullah said that there will be no changes in the rules.
"[The rules on] the fireworks have not changed, as usual,” Marullah said at the City Hall, Monday, December 5, 2022.
During the 2022 new year celebration, the provincial government forbid the use of fireworks and firecrackers as stipulated in the Governor's Decree No. 1473 on the public mobility restrictions or PPKM level 1.
Former Jakarta Deputy Governor Riza Patria explained that the ban was issued in a bid to prevent crowds that have the potential of COVID-19 transmission.
The Acting Governor of Jakarta attended the leadership meeting on Christmas and New Year 2023 on Monday, October 5, 2022.
Marullah explained that the meeting discussed the technical implementation of Christmas and New Year 2023, including the allowed locations. According to Marullah, the policy is aimed at dispersing potential crowds considering that Jakarta is still under PPKM restriction.
