TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo or Jokowi confirmed that assistance for renovating houses affected by the Cianjur Earthquake will begin to be distributed this week. The amount varies from Rp50 million, Rp25 million, to Rp10 million, based on the level of house damages
"Thursday will begin to be given," Jokowi said when visiting locations affected by the Cianjur earthquake in West Java, Monday, December 5.
With this help, the government hopes that communities can participate in rebuilding victims' houses. "We also hope that there will be community activities, economic activities, and economic mobility," the president said.
Two weeks ago on Monday noon, November 21, a shallow earthquake of magnitude 5.6 struck Cianjur. As of Saturday, December 3, the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) recorded that the disaster had taken the lives of 334 people.
The day after the earthquake, President Widodo visited the disaster site. He offered assistance of Rp50 million for houses with heavy damages, Rp25 million for moderate damages, and Rp10 million for light damages.
Assistance is provided through various schemes. "Some are given directly, some through savings. For all of them, a system has been prepared and I came here to check the preparations," Jokowi said.
The government is also relocating residents' houses with a total of 56,000 units. Jokowi understands that this is not a small number, but he wants the construction to be completed as soon as possible. He ensured that the relocation area was determined through a study from the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG). "As well as other related agencies, the Geological Agency as well, all of them."
