Mount Semeru Remain Highly Active; Volcanic Hazard Zone Established

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Mount Semeru up until Monday morning continues to erupt hot ash clouds, according to official volcanic mountain observer Mukdas Sofian, who said there were 29 eruptions for six hours.
"The results of observing today's seismicity for six hours, Mount Semeru also experienced 29 eruptions or eruptions with an amplitude of 11-22 mm,” Sofian wrote in a statement on December 5, Antaranews reported.
According to visual observations, Semeru has erupted white smoke from its crate that was observed with thin to moderate intensity reaching 500 meters high from the summit, then weak winds to the southwest.
Semeru’s status was increased by the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) from Level 3 to Level 4 (alert) since Sunday noon.
Residents are strongly advised not to conduct any activities in the Southeast region of Besuk Kobokan, which is 13 kilometers from the center of the volcanic eruption.
