TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - AirNav Indonesia representative on Sunday said commercial flight schedules – up to December 4 – destined for Surabaya’s Juanda Airport and Abdulrachman Saleh Airport in Malang remain normal despite Mount Semeru’s recent eruption.
The active volcanic mountain in East Java’s Lumajang Regency erupted and spewed hot ash clouds since Sunday (02:46 Indonesia Western Time|WIB), reaching 7 kilometers from its crater.
“The flight operations and flight navigation services at Juanda Airport and Abdulrachman Saleh are running normally,” said AirNav Indonesia secretary Rosedi in a written statement.
The Semeru eruption caused a number of earthquakes triggered by the blasts on Sunday morning.
AirNav has issued an ASHTAM caution for the two airports affected by the eruption.
"Based on our initial inspection at the location, the condition of personnel, buildings, and flight navigation facilities are in a safe condition, including the runway for aircraft take-off/landing activities," said Rosedi.
