BMKG Earthquake Report: Aftershocks in Garut and Cianjur

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency or BMKG recorded an aftershock of Magnitude 2.9 at 17:59, following the earthquake of Magnitude 6.1 that shook the region at 16:49.
The recent quake was centered 61 kilometers from southwest Garut Regency and at the depth of 107 kilometers. The previous quake was centered 52 kilometers southwest of Garut Regency at the depth of 109 kilometers.
BMKG also recorded another aftershock in Cianjur at the magnitude of 3.1 at 18:26, following the main M5.6 earthquake on November 21.
It is yet unknown if the recent earthquake in Cianjur was triggered by the quake in Garut today. BMKG head of earthquake and tsunami center Daryono in his statement broadcasted on television asserted that both temblors were sourced from different systems and depths.
Apart from tremors in Garut and Cianjur, BMKG also recorded recent earthquakes in Timor Tengah Utara-NTT at 18:50 with M3.1 centered at the sea, in Luwu Timur-South Sulawesi at 17:40 with M2.6 centered on the land, and in Kupang Regency-NTT at 17:29 with M3.1 centered on the coast.
