TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe Smart City movement was initiated by the Ministry of Communication and Informatics (Kemenkominfo) and has been implemented since 2017.

Smart City is aimed at increasing mobility, creating quality of life, environmentally friendly construction, and the use of renewable energy sources.

The development of smart cities is also aimed at harmonizing between sectors in local government, and initiatives in the regions with local governments, the central government including the business world, and even other countries.

Director of Government Informatics Application Services (LAIP) Bambang Dwi Anggono, said that the Smart City movement guides a plan for developing digitalization within regencies and cities.

"The Smart City Movement has been carried out from 2017 to 2022 with the number of urban districts that we guide and oversee the planning of reaching 198 districts/cities," said Bambang in an official statement received on Friday, December 2, 2022.

According to Bambang, currently, there are around 200 participants in the Smart City program and this will continue to grow. The government is targeting 50 urban districts to participate in the Smart City movement by 2023.

"So it will be all over the province. In the Smart City program, Kominfo encourages planning harmonization in the regions so that they have a development focus for the benefit of the wider community," Bambang said.

The Ministry of Communication and Informatics encourages the participation of the business world to join in the initiatives towards Smart Cities in all regions of Indonesia and encourages Smart City development initiatives that are carried out jointly by local governments, investors, and the private sector.

Bambang Dwi Anggono explained that previously the initiative was pushed through the APBD, starting this year he invites investors and the private sector to collaborate with local governments to produce better public services.

The focus of the development, Bambang Continued, was accompanied by the Ministry of Communication and Informatics, together with related ministries/institutions such as the Ministry of Public Works and Housing (PUPR), Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform, and Ministry of National Development Planning. The institution for these programs can provide more optimal benefits to the community.

"Quite a lot of initiatives produced by local governments from the education sector, environmental management, processing energy for the community, increasing welfare, empowering youth, and empowering children," said Bambang.
