TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian national soccer team has begun the preparations for the 2022 AFF Cup. The national training camp for the Garuda team takes place in Bali.
The first training for the national football team took place on Monday, November 28, led by the National Team coach Shin Tae-Yong.
Shin has summoned 28 players but several names have yet to join the training camp. They are Elkan Baggott, Sandy Walsh, Jordi Amat, Egy Maulana Vikri, Witan Sulaeman, Dimas Drajad, Marselino Ferdinan, Muhammad Ferarri, and Dzaky Asraf.
"Not all of the players participated in this first training. The initial training will only be light exercises. This week we are focusing on physical recovery, and then improving the players' physique," said Shin Tae-Yong as quoted from PSSI's YouTube channel, Tuesday, November 29.
The AFF Cup will start on December 20, 2022, to January 16, 2023. This biennial tournament in the Southeast Asia region will use a home-and-away format.
Indonesia stood in group A with Cambodia, Brunei Darussalam, and the defending champion Thailand. Garuda squad's first match will be against Cambodia on December 23.
Shin Tae-Yong is targeting for Indonesia to win the championship. "With the Kanjuruhan tragedy, I feel responsible for the sadness of the people, so the target for the national team and I is to win the 2022 AFF Cup," said Shin.
In the 2020 AFF Cup, the Indonesian national team only finished runner-up. In the final, the Garuda team was defeated by the Thai national team, which won for the sixth time.
