Jokowi Congratulates Anwar Ibrahim on Becoming Prime Minister of Malaysia

TEMPO.CO, JakartaPresident Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on Thursday evening congratulated the newly appointed Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim in a phone call from the Bogor Presidential Palace, West Java. 

In the written statement issued by the Palace on November 25, Jokowi said to the PM who was appointed by the constitutional monarch King Al-Sultan Abdullah following an election deadlock, “Representing the Indonesian government and its population, I congratulate your Excellency for becoming the 10th Prime Minister of Malaysia.” 

The President conveyed that Anwar Ibrahim is a figure who is widely known and respected by Indonesians in general. Jokowi also believes that under the leadership of Anwar Ibrahim, good relations between Indonesia and Malaysia will continue to advance.

Anwar Ibrahim responded to the phone call by thanking Jokowi, who he mentioned as one of the first state leaders who reached him following his election. The PM also hopes that the bilateral relations between Malaysia and Indonesia will continue to strengthen.
