TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on Thursday asserts that the government’s main priority following the devastating earthquake that hit Cianjur in West Java is to evacuate the number of victims who are believed to still be beneath the rubbles.
The President said that there are still a large number of victims that have yet to be evacuated due to the difficult terrain and scattered in a broad area.
"In a village in Mangunkerta Village, Cugenang District, there are still 39 victims who have not been evacuated from the ruins of the building. So, the main priority is evacuation," said Jokowi at the Mangunkerta disaster site, Cugenang, Thursday, November 24.
In terms of the distribution of logistics to survivors who are currently at refugee camps, he said have been distributed as evenly as possible.
“It includes clean water, the distribution has been well. I am present again at Cianjur to make sure everything is going according to plan,” said the President.
The President visited a number of villages that were greatly affected by the earthquake and continued to pay visits to injured survivors at the Sayang Cianjur General Hospital.
To date, hundreds of people were injured and 271 people lost their lives after a magnitude 5.6 earthquake violently shook Cianjur Regency on Monday, November 21, which was deemed a shallow quake believed to be triggered by the Cimandiri Fault.
