Minister Urges Health Workers, People Age 60 above to Get Second Boosters Immediately

24 November 2022 11:43 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin urged health workers and elderly people age 60 and older to immediately get their second boosters or the fourth dose of Covid-19 vaccine. His call came amid the recent spikes in new cases of the disease.

"Immediately get a second booster, don't forget to use IndoVac, which has been proven to be very effective, not inferior to foreign products," Budi said at the Covid-19 vaccination event at the Bogor Palacein West Java, Thursday, November 24.

At the event President Joko Widodo or Jokowi also took his second jab of booster as recommended by the Health Minister to elderly people age 60 years and above.

Cases on the Rise

Budi said that there is an uptrend in Covid-19 cases. It has been discovered that 74 percent of the patients hospitalized or showed moderate to severe symptoms without a booster. Meanwhile, 84 percent of the patients who died during the last wave of infection had not received booster.

Budi reminded the public to immediately register for a booster shot. To date, only 66 million people in Indonesia, of the 234 million targets, have received boosters.

IndoVac is produced by state-owned pharmaceutical company PT Bio Farma (Persero). SOE Minister Erick Thohir said his ministry continues making efforts to maintain health independence, one of which is through the production of the IndoVac vaccine.
