Singapore PM Lee Delivers Condolence Message to Jokowi on Cianjur Earthquake

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Prime Minister of Singapore Lee Hsien Loong on Tuesday has written to Indonesian President Joko Widodo to deliver his condolences on the earthquake that took place in Cianjur yesterday. The disaster has taken the lives of at least 268 people, most of whom are children.
Indonesian authorities have also reported that the 5.6-magnitude earthquake heavily injured more than 300 people, while at least 600 suffered minor to moderate injuries.
In his letter, PM Lee said he was deeply saddened to hear about the loss of many lives caused by the earthquake.
"On behalf of the Government of Singapore, I express my deepest condolences and sympathies to the families of the victims and those affected by the disaster. Our thoughts and prayers are with the government and people of Indonesia during this difficult time," he wrote.
The Prime Minister also wrote that he is confident Indonesia will overcome this adversity and recover quickly and that he would like President Jokowi to let him know if Singapore can be of any assistance in the relief efforts.
It its official website, the Singaporean Embassy in Jakarta said that it stays in close contact with Indonesian authorities on the situation and will continue to monitor the developments closely. There are currently no reports of Singaporeans among the casualties or injured.
