Train Lines Suspended after M5.6 Earthquake Hits Cianjur

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Railways Company or PT KAI had to stop several trains from running after a 5.6-magnitude earthquake that hit Cianjur Regency at noon today. This was done to check all facilities and infrastructure in locations affected by the earthquake.
"We have to suspend the operation of several trains that were running to ensure everything was safe," Kuswardojo, PR manager of PT KAI Operation Area 2 of Bandung, said on Monday, November 21, 2022.
Kuswardoyo said that the six trains were temporarily stopped from running. The Lodaya train was stopped at Indihiang Station for 10 minutes, the Pasundan train was stopped in Ciamis for 8 minutes, the Kutojaya Selatan stopped at Banjar for 5 minutes, the Ciremai train stopped in Purwakarta for 25 minutes, and the Siliwangi train stopped in Cirajang for 23 minutes.
"From the results of the inspection, it was clear that all of the railway infrastructures was in a safe condition. However, it was found that there was some damage and cracks in the Cianjur station building after the earthquake," Kuswardoyo said.
Kuswardojo said that all trains that had been temporarily suspended were back in operation. "No train route has been canceled, every line is running as scheduled," he said.
A 5.6-magnitude earthquake centered in Cianjur Regency shook the area at 13:21 on Monday, November 21, 2022. At least 46 people died and hundreds were injured.
