TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Head of the BMKG Earthquake and Tsunami Center, Daryono, revealed the results of an analysis of the earthquake that occurred on Monday afternoon, November 21, 2022, that shook areas from Cianjur, West Java, to Tangerang in Banten, and Bakauheni in Lampung. The update parameter is said to be fixed at the initial information, namely Magnitude 5.6.
However, Daryono said the earthquake's epicenter was located in the Sukalarang area, Sukabumi, West Java, and not Cianjur. The depth of the epicenter is located 11 kilometers, unlike the initial information that states 10 kilometers. "This type of shallow earthquake is suspected to be due to the activity of the Cimandiri Fault," Daryono said in a written statement.
The earthquake was also felt in Cianjur City with an intensity scale of V - VI MMI (the tremor can be felt by all residents. Most of them were all shocked and ran outside). Whereas in Garut and Sukabumi it was also stronger than the initial information, namely IV to V MMI (The tremor was felt by almost all residents, and many people woke up).
"Until 14:00 WIB, the BMKG monitoring results showed that there were 15 aftershock activities with the largest magnitude of 4.0," Daryono continued.
In the written statement, he appealed to the public to remain calm, and also avoid buildings that are cracked or damaged due to earthquakes. "Check and make sure the building where you live is sufficiently earthquake resistant, or that there is no damage due to earthquake tremors that could endanger the stability of the building before you return to your house."
