TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Commission D of the Jakarta Regional People's Representative Council (DPRD Jakarta) requests the construction of sidewalks in 2023 to not cause traffic jams. The Jakarta Highway Agency (Bina Marga) has proposed a sidewalk construction budget of Rp 171 billion in the 2023 Regional Budget plan.
Head of Commission D of Jakarta DRPD, Ida Mahmudah requested the agency to conduct in-depth studies on sidewalk construction to prevent it from causing traffic jams. Many sidewalk constructions in Jakarta have reduced the volume of the road.
"There must be a concept so that expanding sidewalks can be effective and not create traffic jams," said Ida Mahmudah in her statement in Jakarta on Friday, November 18, 2022, as quoted from Antara.
According to the Head of the Jakarta Highway Agency Hari Nugroho, sidewalk constructions will occur in several locations, namely in Daan Mogot, Gunung Sahari Raya, Mangga Besar, Mangga Dua Raya, the area around the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS), and Mas Mansyur.
The construction of the sidewalks aims to provide convenience for commuters in using public transportation such as the TransJakarta bus stop, BRT, JakLingko, and the Jakarta MRT and LRT stations.
"The relevance of this sidewalk is for mobility access to public transportation, especially to TransJakarta bus stops. So to provide public convenience to public transportation," said Hari.
Hari said the sidewalks were built to prevent traffic jams. He added that if the sidewalks are not built, there would be fewer people using public transportation.
