TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia’s President Joko Widodo or Jokowi left Bali today as G20 Summit ended for Thailand to take part in the 29th APEC Summit.
“Yes, it's true [Jokowi went to Thailand for the APEC Summit],” said Deputy for Protocol, Press, and Media at the Presidential Secretariat, Bey Machmudin, to Tempo on Thursday, November 17, 2022.
The President departed from I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport, Bali at around 12:05 local time. Bey did not explain state officials who are part of the President’s entourage to Thailand.
The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation or APEC Summit is slated to be held on November 18-19, 2022. It is a leading forum for 21 member economies in the Pacific Rim to facilitate trade and investment, economic growth, and regional cooperation.
In this year’s summit, Thailand as the chair prioritized issues of economic rehabilitation after the COVID-19 pandemic.
Indonesia’s Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi explained that President Jokowi will hold a number of bilateral meetings in Bangkok with countries that were not scheduled for one during the G20 Summit.
“Because some of the leaders will also fly to Bangkok to attend the APEC Summit,” Retno said.
