Jokowi Wants G20 Summit to Reach a Leaders Declaration

TEMPO.CO, Nusa Dua - President Joko Widodo a.k.a. Jokowi emphasized that the G20 Summit must result in a leaders declaration. Indonesia, he said, would make an effort to push for an agreement to become the G20 Presidency this year.
"The G20 Summit must succeed and it must not fail," said Jokowi at the Opening of the G20 Summit in Apurva, Nusa Dua, Bali, November 15, 2022.
The G20 Summit meeting took place behind closed doors. Today's G20 presidency will discuss economic recovery efforts with a priority focus on issues of digital transformation, energy transition, and global health architecture.
Jokowi stated that the countries of the G20 members must together take a step to solve the matter of crisis faced by all countries. Currently, he said, crisis after crisis keeps happening. The Covid-19 Pandemic is not yet over, followed by political tension due to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
"If we don't immediately take measures on what happened, the next year 2023 will be even worse," Jokowi said.
Jokowi gave an example of the scarcity of fertilizers as an impact that occurred due to the worsening crisis that caused crop failures in various parts of the world. This situation will increase the vulnerability of 48 developing countries.
"Today, the eyes of the world are gazing upon us, Are we going to create success or failure," he said.
President Joko Widodo officially opened the G20 summit after tapping the hammer three times. The forum opened after U.S. President Joe Biden arrived in the conference room. Jokowi is accompanied by Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi and Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani.
