TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) announced that the status of the Pasar Ikan Water Gate in Penjaringan, North Jakarta, had risen to alert level 2 or Siaga as the water level reached 202 centimeters (cm) high as of 7 a.m. Tuesday, November 15, 2022.
Nine areas in North Jakarta are potentially hit by flooding, viz. Kamal Muara, Kapuk Muara, Penjaringan, Pluit, Ancol, Kamal, Marunda, Cilincing, and Kalibaru.
Previously, from 5-6 a.m., the status was on alert level 3 or Waspada. The change in status was triggered by the surge in the water level at the water gate. However, the weather in the area is now bright and not cloudy.
Jakarta BPBD had disseminated the water gate’s worrying status via social media and to officials of sub-district and local villages. In an emergency, people are asked to call Jakarta Siaga 112.
The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) forecasted that the capital would likely see cloudy weather today. The maximum sea tide height of 0.8 meters was estimated to occur at 7 a.m.
The agency also predicted that the air temperature at Tanjung Priok Port, North Jakarta, would range from 26-28 degrees Celsius with an air humidity level of 75-90 percent. Besides, the estimated wave height was 0.1-0.5 meters with wind gusting from south to west at about 5-15 knots.
The BMKG's weather forecast was also applied at Marunda Port and Kalibaru Port in Cilincing, as well as Sunda Kelapa Port, Nizam Zachman Ocean Fishing Port Muara Baru, and Kaliadem Muara Angke Port in Penjaringan, North Jakarta.
