TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Garuda Wisnu Kencana Cultural Park (GWK) is one of the sites that will be used as a holding location for a series of events at the G20 Summit. As one of the tourist icons in Bali, the location will be used as a welcoming dinner of the G20 on November 15, 2022.
The GWK is intended to welcome delegates from various countries, including the heads of delegations. GWK Operation Director, Stefanus Yonathan Astayasa, said that his group is 100 percent prepared for the upcoming visit. Therefore, the GWK is going to be beautified.
“We are starting to make improvements to the venues and access. Our priority is access. This is because access to the G20 must be free of queuing. We prepare the appropriateness, splendour, and tidiness to make this welcoming dinner perfect," said Stefanus in a written statement from the G20 Media and Communications Team.
President Joko Widodo, along with the head of the G20 delegations, will have dinner in the Lotus Pond area, one of the biggest landmarks in GWK known as the main square. The outdoor area can accommodate up to 7,500 people.
In this large location, delegates can enjoy the views of the majestic limestone cliffs and the garuda statue at one end of the cliffs. Upon entering the main entrance of the Lotus Pond, the delegation will be greeted first by Tirta Agung (holy water). There, visitors can also come across carved stone walls (relief) which consist of stories of Garuda Wisnu Kencana that will become a mount of Lord Wisnu, who in Hindus believe is the guardian deity of the universe.
"It is planned that around 300-400 people will attend the dinner at Lotus Pond. The other, specifically the G20 participant who did not take part in the event, can have dinner at the Jendela Bali Restaurant," said Stefanus.
As the implementation of the G20 Summit continues, GWK sites are closed to tourist visits for four days from November 12 to 15, 2022. During those four days, GWK will give a day off to its employees. The peak implementation of the G20 Summit itself will be held on November 15-16, 2022.
