BMKG issues Early Warning for Hydro-meteorological Disasters in 8 Provinces

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Since last weekend, the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) has issued an early warning for hydro-meteorological disasters in eight provinces in Indonesia. The regions of Aceh, North and West Sumatra, Bengkulu, West and Central Java, Yogyakarta, and East Java are still notifying the citizens to be on alert until today, Monday, November 14, 2022.

Hydrometeorological disasters include such as floods, Flash floods, and landslides including extreme rainfall.

Among the provincial capital area, BMKG estimates potential heavy rain today will occur in Bandung and Bandar Lampung. Thunderous rain has the potential to occur in Yogyakarta, Pangkal Pinang and Padang. The air temperature will range between 18-33 degrees Celcius with the lowest being in Bandung and the highest in Gorontalo, Pontianak, Mataram, Kupang, and Kendari.

On a wider scale, and used in today's weather forecast, BMKG monitors the presence of cyclonic circulation in West Aceh water, the West Indian Ocean in Lampung, the Java sea, the Makassar Strait, and the North Papua Waters.

This cyclonic circulation forms a convergence area that extends across the Andaman Sea to the North Coast of Aceh, south Kalimantan to the North Coast of Java, in the Sulawesi Sea to the Makassar Strait, in Papua to the North Arafuru Sea, and in the North Sea of Papua.

The wind confluence in the western waters of Aceh-North Sumatra and the West Indian Ocean of Sumatra. All of them, according to the BMKG, were able to increase the potential for the growth of rain clouds in the vicinity.
