TEMPO.CO, Mataram - The Mandalika Circuit has officially received a Grade B homologation to host the upcoming World Superbike (WSBK) race. This was announced by the president director of the Mandalika Grand Prix Association (MGPA) Priandhi Satria on Thursday, Nov. 10.
According to Priandhi, since Wednesday, November 10, the FIM and Dorna officials as the organizer of the WSBK have conducted field inspections at the circuit to assess the track’s safety aspect, especially the parts that have been improved, starting from the curb, run off and track surface.
"In addition, several riders have also carried out track familiarization so that later the FIM has issued a Grade B homologation so that the WSBK Mandalika 2022 can immediately start on November 11-13," said Priandhi.
Priandhi explained that FIM was satisfied to provide Grade B homologation as it is what the motorcycle championship requires. However, he added that this does not mean that the track had been downgraded from its MotoGP Grade A homologation, which is another motorcycle championship that differs from WSBK that races prototype motorcycles.
Grade B means that the track had not received negative input from the riders.
"Because WSBK suffices with Grade B, FIM has issued a Grade B homologation," the MGPA official explained.
Later, ahead of the MotoGP event, the FIM be present again to inspect the Mandalika Circuit to conduct the annual homologation process, with hopes of achieving Grade A.
