Jakarta Hosting 33rd International Publishers Congress This Week

10 November 2022 11:23 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta has been appointed to host the 33rd World Congress of the International Publishers Association (IPA). The event is currently taking place at the Fairmont Hotel in the Senayan area of South Jakarta from November 10 to 12.

This is the first time that a Southeast Asian nation is hosting an IPA Congress, quite appropriately so in Jakarta, which in 2021 was named as UNESCO's City of Literature.

The event was held in collaboration between the Jakarta's Department of Tourism and Creative Economy (Disparekraf) and the International Publishers Association (IPA), the Indonesian Publishers Association (IKAPI), the Jakarta Book City Committee, and the Jakarta Experience Board (JXB).

This congress will have a series of seminars about the latest issues and information about the publishing industry. This year's congress theme is 'Reading matter, embracing the future'.

"Jakarta as the center and starting point of the Indonesian publishing industry is committed to ensuring that books have an important role in the lives of the people of Jakarta," the Jakarta Book City Committee chairwoman Laura Prinsloo said at the Fairmont Senayan Hotel, Wednesday, November 9.

Jakarta is also hosting one of the largest book fairs in Southeast Asia, the 41st annual Indonesia International Book Fair (IIBF) running from November 9 to 13 at the Jakarta Convention Center.
