TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin informed on Tuesday that most patients who undergo COVID-19 treatment at hospitals are experiencing mild to moderate symptoms.

"There are relatively few severe and critical ones. The use of oxygen is also low. So, many mild and moderate (symptomatic) people are being treated," he said at a working meeting with Commission IX of the House of Representatives.

He informed that 4,523 COVID-19 patients had been hospitalized in the country as of November 6, 2022, with 4,295 undergoing isolation and 228 receiving intensive care.

Among the COVID-19 patients undergoing treatment at the hospital, 706 showed no symptoms, 1,890 patients experienced mild symptoms, 1,658 had moderate symptoms, 201 suffered severe symptoms, and 29 were in critical condition, he said.

Most of the hospitalized COVID-19 patients were aged 19 to 59 years, Sadikin informed. The patients were also dominated by elderly people, he noted.

There were reports that two people among the hospitalized patients had succumbed to the disease, he said.

The current death rate among COVID-19 patients is much lower than the death rate during the transmission of the Delta variant of the coronavirus, he informed.

Minister Sadikin said that the increase in the transmission of COVID-19 in Indonesia currently is due to the spread of Omicron sub-variants, including BA.2.75, XBB, and BQ.1.

The government is still encouraging the adoption of health protocols as well as administering vaccines, carrying out examinations, case tracing, and patient handling to address the transmission of the virus.

It is also advising citizens to take the third or booster dose of the COVID-19 vaccine to increase their immunity against the coronavirus and its variants.
