Health Ministry Tries to Prepare Merah Putih Vaccine to be Used in Booster Shots Program

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Merah Putih Vaccine has received permission from the National Agency of Drug and Food Control (BPOM). The Ministry of Health has made an effort to get the vaccine prepared to be used in a booster vaccination program.
Although it has acquired permission from BPOM, The Merah Putih vaccine is currently not ready to be distributed to the public. The spokesperson for the Ministry of Health, Siti Nadia Tarmizi, mentions the Merah Putih vaccine is currently pursuing approval from the National Immunization Expert Advisory Committee (ITAGI).
"We are attempting to expand the booster vaccine regimen," said Nadia when contacted on Sunday, November 6, 2022.
In addition to acquiring a recommendation from ITAGI, Nadia said the Merah Putih vaccine is still not ready for mass production. Production will be carried out simultaneously with the process of obtaining ITAGI permits. "It will be done in parallel," she said.
The Ministry of Health will also attempt to contain the increase in the number of Covid-19 after the report of the XBB and XBC variants identified in Indonesia. Nadia added that the Ministry of Health will encourage residents to take booster vaccinations even after Covid-19 changed its status to endemic.
"Keep educating and reminding the public that several booster vaccines are still a requirement to carry out activities among the public spaces," she said.
The increase in Covid-19 cases in Indonesia has occurred again. The government's report as of Saturday, November 5, 2022, at 12:00 reaches 4,717 new cases. Jakarta with the most additions of confirmed cases, at about 1,859 cases. Furthermore, cases of recovery were reported at 2,930 cases, while cases of death were reported to have only 39 cases.
