TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno visited the Jogja Halal Fest in Yogyakarta, Friday, November 4. He said that such an event would not only lift the spirits of economic actors, especially the sharia creative economy, but also could be a great potential for Muslim-friendly tourism, or Indonesian halal products.
"We hope that events like Jogja Halal Fest can further lead Indonesia to be the center and the producer of the world's halal products," he said.
Indonesia's potential as the country with the largest Muslim population
According to Sandiaga, despite its status as the country with the largest Muslim population in the world, Indonesia is still importing halal products. "Meanwhile, on one side, we see the increasing demand for Muslim-friendly tourism or halal products," he said.
The Minister revealed demands and hopes for Indonesia to increase the extension of service of Muslim-friendly tourism. Therefore, the government targets to reach 1.4 billion domestic tourist visits this year.
The current domestic tourist dynamic is mostly supported by the existing Muslim-friendly tourism, such as halal restaurants and the currently favored Muslim fashion.
Halal products tourism can be a solution to the threat of global recession
Sandiaga Uno said that he is optimistic that halal products and tourism developed by economy creative actors can be one of the solutions to overcome the threat of a global recession in 2023. "From the halal tourism sector, we can be a contributor to creating 1.1 million jobs and overcoming the challenges of a global recession. "
