TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A member of the Joint Independent Fact Finding Team or TGIPF for the Kanjuruhan incident Akmal Marhali, said that the autopsies on two victims of the Kanjuruhan incident was intended to uncover the exact cause of death of the victims. According to Akmal, if the victims are proven to have died due to tear gas intoxication, the investigation into the Kanjuruhan incident will become broader.
"If the autopsy results declare that the victim died from tear gas poison, the case will become broader and there will be more suspects," Akmal said when contacted by Tempo on Friday, November 4, 2022.
The two bodies of the victims who will be autopsied on Saturday, November 5, 2022, are siblings. They were Natasya Debi Ramadani, 16 years old, and Naila Debi Anggraini, 13 years old.
Akmal said that initially, 10 victims were intended to be exhumed, however, families of the victims withdrew their intention and did not want autopsies to be carried out. Devi Athok, a parent of Nastasya and Naila, meant to cancel the autopsy permit. However, after being convinced by TGIPF, Devi allowed the autopsy to continue.
Akmal expressed that his group will not close the door to other families who wanted an autopsy for their family's remains for the sake of investigation. Stated that with more victims being examined, the autopsy results will be more accurate. "If other victims' families are willing, we will accept," said Akmal.
The process of the autopsy will be carried out by exhuming the victim's grave and examining the bodies on the spot.
