Indonesia Records an Increase of Foreign Tourists Arrival at 10,000 Percent

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that the number of foreign tourists arriving until September 2022 continued to increase. Compared to a similar month in the previous year, it increased by more than 10,000 percent.
BPS Deputy for Distribution Statistics and Services, Setianto, said that the number of foreign tourist visits to Indonesia in September 2022 reached 538,320 visits or an increase of 10,768 percent compared to September 2021 at 5,000 visits.
"This continued to increase since January 2022," Setianto said during a press conference from his office in Jakarta, Tuesday, November 1, 2022.
Meanwhile, the number of foreign tourist visits still increased by 5.5 percent compared to the previous month which saw 510,200 visits in August 2022. The number of foreign arrivals has consistently increased from January 2022, which was only 15,100 visits.
Therefore, cumulatively, the number of foreign tourist visits in January-September 2022 was recorded at 2.27 million people, an increase of 2,530 percent compared to the number of foreign tourist visits in the same period in 2021 at around 86,240. "Because in January-September 2021, foreign tourist visits were still relatively low," said Setianto.
Based on nationality, foreign tourists visiting Indonesia were dominated by Australian tourists with 92,390 visits, followed by Singaporean tourists with 85,990 visits, Malaysia with 57,240 visits, and India with 33,300 visits.
The shortest average length of stay was recorded at around 5 days by tourists from ASEAN regions, and the longest average length of stay was around 17 days by European tourists.
