TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Tourism and Creative Economy Ministry aims to complete the development of Labuan Bajo by the year 2024, which will see the super-priority tourist destination operable. The Minister, Sandiaga Uno, is optimistic that the development of Flores Island – its main tourism island – will boost tourist visits.
"We are ready for the transition from quantity tourism to quality tourism with the aim of attracting 1.5 million tourist visits per year," said Sandiaga in a weekly press brief on Monday, October 31.
He said a number of facilities for travelers had been prepared, which basically included the airport. International flights from Singapore and Australia to Labuan Bajo will also be opened in the near future.
As for the initial investment, the government shelled more than Rp 4 trillion for the management of the Labuan Bajo area.
The minister also said that Labuan Bajo would be a leading destination for meetings, incentives, conventions, and exhibitions or MICE. In addition, the government will develop a youth tourism area in the tourist area located on the western tip of Flores Island.
Youth tourism is a concept that intends to attract young people at a relatively low cost for special interests. Sandiaga ensures that he will lead the development of green tourism involving new and renewable energy.
