TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Arema Football Club president Gilang Widya Pramana was questioned as a witness in the Kanjuruhan Stadium Tragedy Case on Thursday, October 27. To the East Java Resort Police, Gilang said his position in the club was as an investor.
Gilang, also known as Juragan 99, said he came to the police station to provide investigators with additional statements about the tragedy on October 1st, which led to the death of 135, including two members of the police force.
"My position in Arema is that I am a sponsor. As an investor, no funds come in at all," said Gilang.
Concerning the club's managerial issues, Gilang asked investigators to ask the owner of Arema FC directly. "For matters related to managerial affairs, please ask the club owners," he said.
The Kanjuruhan Stadium incident took place on Saturday night, October 1, after a match between Arema FC and rival Persebaya Surabaya. After the home team was defeated 2-3, Arema supporters came down to the pitch, prompting the police to throw tear gas, which caused panic and stampede in the stadium. The Kanjuruhan tragedy resulted in the death of 135 people and injured hundreds.
