Sandiaga Uno: 'G20 Preparations Stay on Track albeit Floods Hit Bali'

24 October 2022 22:14 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaTourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno ensured that the preparations for the G20 Presidency in Bali are on track despite the flood that is hitting the Island of the Gods. He explained that the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) had established a team for integrated disaster mitigation.

BNPB, said Sandiaga, had conducted a tabletop exercise to welcome the series of the G20 Presidency. “We appreciate BNPB for preparing a task force,” Sandiaga said at The Weekly Brief with Sandi Uno event on Monday, October 24, 2022.

Sandiaga also appreciated the Bali provincial government for working hard to overcome flash floods and landslides in Jembrana Regency and Karangasem Regency. He claimed he was assured by Bali Governor that all parties are on alert for potential disasters.

"And ensuring that G20 preparations remain on track and that November 15-16, 2022 will not be affected by the disaster [flood] that has just occurred," Sandiaga added.

According to the former deputy governor of Jakarta, what is needed now is confidence in all delegates, particularly those who will soon visit and travel to Bali. He thus appealed to the public to remain cautious and vigilant and to practice quality and sustainable tourism.

Sandiaga also said that several parts of Indonesia are facing a weather anomaly of high rainfall that may lead to flooding. Bali is among the regions with a high risk of hydrometeorological disasters.

"We all pray for the best. We must mobilize our efforts to mitigate and overcome the disaster that is now engulfing various areas in Bali," said Sandiaga Uno.
