Indonesian Police Establish Team to Investigate Acute Kidney Injuries in Children

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Police Headquarters have established a special team to investigate the cases of acute kidney injury among children. As of Monday, October 24, these cases have caused 141 deaths.

National Police spokesperson Sr. Comr. Nurul Azizah said that the team consisted of four one-star generals. This team will be led by the Director of the Narcotics Crime Unit, Brigadier General Krisno Halomoan Siregar.

"The team will specifically respond to problems related to acute kidney failure," said Nurul Azizah at the Public Relations Division of the National Police Headquarters, Monday, October 24, 2022.

Nurul said the team would work closely with the Health Ministry and the Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (BPOM).

On Monday, the Health Ministry reported that the number of children suffering from acute kidney injury has risen to 245 cases across 26 provinces with 141 fatalities to date. This means a mortality rate of over 57 percent.
