TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Police Strategic Studies Institute (Lemkapi) argued that the Indonesian National Police (Polri) will improve to be a more professional organization after recent scandals involving some of its high-ranking personnel.
The police institution is currently under the public spotlight following the recent murder case involving Ferdy Sambo, the police's former chief of internal affairs; the Kanjuruhan deadly incident that killed 134 people; and the involvement of former chief of West Sumatera Regional Police Teddy Minahasa in a drug trafficking network.
"Seeing the commitment shown by national police general Listyo Sigit Prabowo who has acted assertively and worked tirelessly, Polri will see a major change in terms of public services," said Lemkapi executive director Edi Hasibuan in a written statement on Friday, October 21, 2022.
Edi believed that the structural and cultural reform initiated by the National Police Chief is in line with the values often expressed by President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo.
Previously, National Police Chief Listyo Sigit Prabowo gave an ultimatum to all of the police personnel and urged each and every one of them to conduct their duties properly to regain public trust.
