TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo has spoken up about his stance in the 2024 presidential election. A number of surveys found that he is among the top three potential candidates along with Prabowo Subianto and Anies Baswedan.
In an interview broadcasted via BeritaSatu Youtube channel on Tuesday, October 18, 2022, Ganjar claimed he is ready to join the presidential contest if a political party declares him a candidate in 2024.
“We are ready for this nation and country,” Ganjar said.
Support for Ganjar had been made by political parties internally, including the United Development Party (PPP) and the National Mandate Party (PAN). The Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) has also explicitly endorsed Ganjar as a presidential candidate for 2024.
“Those parties declare support. I don't know if they trust me enough,” he added.
Ganjar and Puan Maharani are said to be strong candidates supported by the ruling party, the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP). However, the final decision is on the party’s chair Megawati Soekarnoputri.
On Thursday, October 13, 2022, the PDIP secretary-general Hasto Kristiyanto said support for Ganjar Pranowo as a presidential candidate in internal parties was normal because Indonesia is a democratic country. Hasto said his party, however, would not interfere with other parties' affairs related to their candidates for the 2024 general elections.
