Jokowi Honorably Dismisses Anies Baswedan as Jakarta Governor

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo has honorably dismissed Anies Baswedan and Ahmad Riza Patria from their positions as Governor and Deputy Governor of Jakarta as stated in Presidential Decree No. 100/P of 2022 read during the inauguration of the Acting Governor of Jakarta at the Home Affairs Ministry this morning, October 17, 2022.
“First, approving the honorable discharge from the office starting October 16, 2022,” the Presidential Decree was read out today.
The President also thanked Anies and Riza for their service in Jakarta for the 2017-2022 period. The decree also noted the appointment of Presidential Secretariat Head, Heru Budi Hartono, as Acting Governor of Jakarta.
“Appointing Heru Budi Hartono as Acting Governor of Jakarta starting from the time of inauguration for a maximum term of 1 year.”
Anies held a farewell ceremony with Jakarta residents at the City Hall on Sunday. Taking a bicycle ride from his house in Lebak Bulus to the City Hall, he was warmly welcomed by the citizens who were present at the car free day or CFD in the HI Roundabout area.
He stated that his work for the nation and the state is still ongoing and is now entering a new round. “A round is over, let's welcome the next one,” he said on Sunday as quoted from Antara.
In his farewell speech, Anies talked of social justice which is not exclusively for Jakarta only but also for sustainability. “The work of social justice is a continuous work because the work for Indonesia will never stop here," he remarked.
Anies Baswedan also said that various works in Jakarta were proof of the provincial government’s performance in Jakarta which he has led for about five years.
