Wings Group Asserts No Ethylene Oxide Used in Mie Sedaap Instant Noodles

12 October 2022 21:34 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaWings Group Indonesia has spoken up about the recall of its Mie Sedaap instant noodles in a number of countries. The company’s head of corporate communications & CSR Sheila Kansil acknowledged that the products were recalled due to the presence of ethylene oxide, which is a type of pesticide.

“Mie Sedaap makes sure there is no ethylene oxide used in all production lines,” Sheila said in a written statement on Wednesday, October 12, 2022.

Wings Group claims that its instant noodle brand has met the food safety standard which is the company's top priority.

According to Sheila, other than Mie Sedaap, other food categories, such as vegetables, fruits, and spices produced by various companies based in Japan, South Korea, China, India, and the Philippines were also recalled.

The use of ethylene oxide, she added, is common in the agricultural industry as a sterilizer or antimicrobial agent in spices and grains which are still used in the United States, Canada, and many other countries.

She emphasized that Wings Group always makes sure of the quality of Mie Sedaap products in order to maintain consumer trust. Further investigations were also conducted in tandem with the domestic authorities and the countries concerned.

“We will always provide the best for the people,” Sheila said.

She further outlined that Mie Sedaap complies with applicable food safety standards, including permits from Indonesia’s Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM), Halal Certificate from the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), ISO 22000 certification on International Standards for Food Safety Management, and ISO 9001 certification on International Standards for Quality Management Systems.
