Jokowi, Xi Jinping to Conduct Dynamic Test of Fast Train Next Month

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Panjaitan has confirmed that Indonesia’s President Joko Widodo or Jokowi and Chinese President Xi Jinping will attend the dynamic test of the Jakarta - Bandung high-speed train on Wednesday, November 16, 2022.

“It's possible [to be attended by Xi Jinping],” said Luhut when met at the Jakarta Mandarin Oriental Hotel, Wednesday, October 12, 2022.

Meanwhile, Luhut planned to review the plan of the fast train dynamic test tomorrow, September 13, 2022. The dynamic test which will be carried out on November 16, 2022, is one of the agenda of Xi Jinping's visit to Indonesia other than the G20 Summit in Bali.

Although the cost overrun was inevitable, Luhut ensured that the project is going well. He also mentioned the financing is still under a business-to-business or B2B scheme and there is no option to disburse the State Budget for the project. “We are still cooperating with China. It is still under the B2B scheme,” he added.

However, Luhut did not deny that there is an opportunity for the government to allocate subsidies for the Jakarta-Bandung fast train project considering the tax revenues could reach more than 12 trillion.
