LIB Responds to Police's Statement on Kanjuruhan Tragedy Suspects

7 October 2022 07:43 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaPresident director of the football league operator PT Liga Indonesia Baru (LIB), Akhmad Hadian Lukita, responded to his naming as a suspect in the deadly stampede at Kanjuruhan Stadium, Malang on Thursday night, October 6, 2022.

“We will respect the applicable legal process and will follow the process. We also hope that yesterday's incident will be a valuable lesson for all,” said Akhmad as quoted from the release of PT LIB on Thursday night.

He had previously attended two police examinations at the Malang Police Headquarters on Monday, October 3, and Wednesday, October 5, 2022.

Bapak Akhmad Hadian Lukita has been in Malang since Sunday morning. He has also met with the Arema FC organizing committee, visited the Kanjuruhan Stadium, and communicated with several families of the victims of the Kanjuruhan tragedy,” said LIB operations director, Sudjarno.

On Thursday night, the police announced six suspects in the tragic incident that killed 131 people and injured hundreds of people on Saturday, October 1, 2022, following a professional match between Arema FC and Persebaya Surabaya.

Other than the LIB president director, the five other suspects are the game’s organizing committee Abdul Haris, security officer Suko Sutrisno, the East Java Police’s mobile brigade commander III Hasdarman, Malang Police’s operational head Wahyu SS, and Malang Police’s rapid response unit head Sidik Achmadi.

National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo stated that the suspect naming was announced after the case investigation was held on Thursday morning. “Based on the investigation and sufficient preliminary evidence, we have determined six suspects,” said Listyo during a press conference on Thursday night, October 6, 2022.

The police, he explained, have examined 48 witnesses, comprising 26 police personnel, three members of the football match organizing committee, eight stewards, six witnesses at the location, and five victims.
