TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The flood that hit the Pondok Labu area of Cilandak in South Jakarta killed at least three students as it surged into a school and knocked down a wall on Thursday afternoon, October 6, 2022.
It was reported that at 14:50 Jakarta time, the wall of junior high school MTs Negeri 19 Jakarta collapsed and hit six people. Three 8th-grade boys died and others were injured.
From videos circulating on social media, the students tried to evacuate from the school in panic as the flood water was at the height of an adult’s waist.
Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan said the city administration would collect necessary data to determine the cause of the incident and design measures to prevent it from recurring.
“Tonight, we will go there (monitor the school) and then we will take it as a lesson so that such an incident will not repeat,” said Anies at Balai Agung of the City Hall, Central Jakarta, Thursday night, October 6, 2022.
Anies Baswedan would also visit the families of the students who died during the Jakarta flood in Jagakarsa to offer condolences.
