Another Earthquake Hits North Tapanuli's Tarutung: BMKG

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A series of earthquakes still occurred in Tarutung, North Tapanuli, North Sumatra. The latest one was recorded in the early hours of Friday, October 7, 2022, at 03:00 a.m., the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has reported.
The quake was measured at 5.0 magnitudes and could be felt at an intensity scale of IV MMI, meaning it can be felt by many indoors and some outdoors during the day and awake people at night. The shaking can also cause doors and windows to make cracking sounds.
Based on the agency’s initial data, it was centered on land, five kilometers northeast of North Tapanuli and at a depth of 10 kilometers. The tremor was also felt in Sipoholon at a lower intensity scale of III MMI.
Tarutung has been repeatedly struck by quakes since Saturday, October 1, 2022. It was a 5.8 magnitude quake followed by more than 100 aftershocks as of today morning. Dominated by small magnitudes, the aftershocks could also be felt at weak intensity.
Prior to today’s earthquake, the BMKG recorded a 4.5-magnitude shock on Thursday afternoon, at 15:30 western Indonesian time (WIB). It was felt up to the intensity scale of IV MMI in Tarutung.
