TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) on Thursday said that football’s world governing body FIFA will assist Indonesia in fixing the problems that exist in the football system.
PSSI chairman Mochamad Iriawan said that PSSI had communicated with FIFA and that there were a number of things discussed with governing body surrounding the Kanjuruhan football stampede. He conveyed this after visiting the Kanjuruhan Stadium, in Malang Regency, East Java, Thursday, October 6.
"First, of course, to express my condolences. Second, FIFA will provide assistance to improve all Indonesian football systems, both security, supporters, and others," said Iriawan, Antaranews reported.
He noted a number of important things after personally checking the Kanjuruhan Stadium. Some of the critical notes were that the stadium still does not have seats for each spectator to determine the maximum capacity.
Then, at Kanjuruhan Stadium, there were stands for fans to watch a game standing, which are uncommon in a football stadium. "There are many shortcomings, there are no single seats. And the standing stands will not be allowed," said the figure who is familiarly called Iwan Bule.
President Jokowi added that he will enforce an audit of all stadiums used for Indonesian League matches, which will help prevent a recurrence of the Kanjuruhan football mass stampede.
