TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has issued today’s weather forecast and an alert warning of hydrometeorological disasters for some parts of Indonesia due to heavy rain
Rain accompanied by lightning is predicted to hit Surabaya, Mataram, Pekanbaru, and Palembang. High-intensity rain is possible in Pangkal Pinang. Moderate-intensity rain may occur in Denpasar, Serang, Yogyakarta, Bandung, Pontianak, Tanjung Pinang, Mamuju, Makassar, and Medan.
Light-intensity rain may also occur in Banda Aceh Bengkulu, Central Jakarta, Gorontalo, Jambi, Banjarmasin, Palangkaraya, Samarinda, Tarakan, Ambon, Ternate, Kupang, Manokwari, Kendari, and Manado.
Several provinces under the alert warning for hydrometeorological disasters (floods, flash floods, etc.) due to potential heavy rains are Aceh, Jakarta, West Java, and Banten.
The agency detected cyclonic circulation in the Natuna Sea which forms a convergence area extending from Riau to the Riau Islands, in the northern part of the Natuna Sea, and in other regions.
This phenomenon is able to increase the growth of rain clouds around the cyclonic circulation area and along the convergence area.
The BMKG also noted that the air temperature today may range between 18-33°C with the lowest temperature in Bandung and the highest temperature in Semarang, Surabaya, and Banjarmasin.
