Govt Psychologists Team Assists Victims of Deadly Football Incident

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Social Affairs Minister Tri Rismaharani on Monday distributed compensation to relatives of the 125 victims of the deadly incident at the Kanjuruhan Stadium following the Arema FC and Persebaya Surabaya match on Saturday evening. It, unfortunately, turned into one of the worst football-related incidents in history.
The Minister not only provided financial compensation but also psychological services for the relatives of the deceased victims and surviving victims. Most of them clambered the stand’s exit routes due to the tear gases shot by security personnel in attempting to disperse fans from the field earlier.
The ministry has tasked a team of psychologists, “Yes, we have mobilized teams to accompany [the victims]. My staff is at the field and they are accompanying the victims’ families at their homes,” said Social Minister Rismaharani on Tuesday, October 4.
Minister Risma offered her deepest condolences. She asserted that government assistance will not replace those who left but rather prove the government’s attention toward citizens.
The tragedy that occurred at the Kanjuruhan Stadium on Saturday, said Risma, is a social disaster. "This is a social disaster, there are also conflicts in several places that we also handle", the minister remarked.
