1 Police Chief, 9 Field Personnel Stripped from Position Over Deadly Football Match

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo has officially dismissed Senior Police Commissioner Adjundant Ferli Hidayat from his position as the Chief of Malang Resort Police as a direct follow-up to the tragic deaths of hundreds of football fans at the Arema FC and Persebaya Surabaya match on Saturday, October 1, 2022.
The dismissal was announced by National Police Spokesperson Dedy Prasetyo on Monday, October 3, 2022.
Dedy also announced that nine police personnel from various units under the East Java Police have been 'dismissed' due to the incident. All nine of the personnel are still undergoing police interrogation.
Dedi also explained that the Police had examined 20 witnesses. The police have upgraded this process into a criminal investigation. "From the results of the examination, the team carried out a case title. From the results of it have officially become an [criminal] investigation," said Dedy.
The riots after the Arema FC vs. Persebaya match on Saturday, October 1, at the Kanjuruhan Stadium in Malang killed 125 football fans and left hundreds injured.
